Who We Are
This Guy Sews (thisguysews.com) is my personal blog about learning to sew — sharing my own sewing projects, machine maintenance and repair experience, and product recommendations. This Privacy Policy explains what information gets collected when you visit or interact with the site, why, and how it’s used.
Comments
When you leave a comment on the site, I collect the information shown in the comment form — your name, email address, and (if provided) website — along with your IP address and browser user agent string, to help detect spam. An anonymized string created from your email address (called a hash) may be shared with the Gravatar service to check whether you’re using it. You can review Gravatar’s own privacy policy at automattic.com/privacy. After your comment is approved, your profile picture (if you have one through Gravatar) is visible to the public alongside your comment.
I may use automated tools to help catch spam comments before they’re published.
Cookies
If you comment, you can opt in to having your name, email address, and website saved in a cookie, purely for your convenience so you don’t have to re-enter them next time. These cookies last about a year. Visiting the login page sets a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies; it holds no personal data and disappears when you close your browser. Logging in sets a few more cookies to save your login details and screen preferences, which last for a couple of days (or two weeks if you check “Remember Me”) and are removed when you log out.
Some cookies on this site come from services I use to run it, rather than from WordPress itself — see Newsletter Sign-Up and Amazon Affiliate Links below. A cookie consent banner (via the Cookie Compliance for WordPress plugin) lets you manage your preferences when you first visit.
Media
If you’re ever able to upload images to the site (for example, through comments), avoid uploading images that include embedded location data (EXIF GPS), since anyone who downloads that image can extract it.
Site Stats, Security & Backups
This site runs on Jetpack, which provides site statistics and some security features — it may collect visitor data like IP address, browser, and pages viewed to do that. Wordfence, a security plugin, also logs visitor IP addresses and requests to help detect and block malicious traffic aimed at the site. UpdraftPlus backs up the site’s data, including comments, to secure cloud storage, so backup copies of that data exist there too. None of these tools are used to sell or share your information — they’re here to keep the site running and safe.
Newsletter Sign-Up
If you sign up for blog updates through the sign-up form on the site, your email address (and anything else you provide) is sent to Mailchimp, the email service I use to send those updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email you receive. You can review Mailchimp’s own privacy policy at mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/.

Embedded Content From Other Websites
Pages on this site may include embedded content (for example, videos or other media) from other websites. Embedded content from other sites behaves exactly as if you’d visited that other website directly — it may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with that content, especially if you’re logged into an account there.
Who We Share Your Data With
Depending on how you interact with the site, information may be shared with or processed by: Automattic/Gravatar (comment avatars), Mailchimp (newsletter sign-ups), my hosting provider (which stores site data and backups), and the security/analytics tools listed above (Jetpack, Wordfence). I don’t sell your information to anyone.
How Long We Keep Your Data
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely, so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them for moderation. If you sign up for the newsletter, Mailchimp retains your information until you unsubscribe.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you’ve left a comment or signed up for the newsletter, you can ask to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, or ask me to erase it, other than data I’m required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Children’s Privacy
This Guy Sews isn’t directed at children, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the site or the tools it uses change. Any changes will be posted on this page along with an updated date.
